FaceTime ~ Yay or Nay?

His ~ Her Different Takes Kelly's Take

Face Time

I am fascinated by all the modern technology in today’s world.  Yet, I am torn between not wanting to use it (I still love my old school ways) and the need to use it for work and staying in touch with family and friends.

Specifically, The technology in cell phones is crazy.  I just recently upgraded my cell phone from the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 6 Plus.  This thing is basically a computer for all intensive purposes.  I can manage my emails, schedules, blog, Facebook pages, Pinterest boards, Instagram as well using Google Maps so I don’t get lost (That’s a blog post all on it’s own).  I have albums of photos for work and personal, I can chat in real time via text, I can check the weather, listen to music and even watch TV.  I can even talk directly to my phone and she will send text, make calls and schedule appointments for me without me having to even pick up the phone.

I remember when the only phone available was the one that hung on the kitchen wall with the over sized cord that went from the hand receiver to the wall mount.  If you needed privacy while talking on the phone, you had to stretch the cord across the kitchen to the pantry closet and close yourself in the pantry to have a conversation.  Don’t even get me started about “party lines”.  Now a days, a lot of people are opting to not even have a “land line” anymore, they are almost obsolete.  I personally, really dislike talking on the phone.  I would much rather have a face to face conversation.  But, in today’s modern world that is just not an option it seems unless you plan a social gathering.  So when it comes to my personal cell phones purpose, it is my organizer, and my communication device via text message 95% of the time.  Seriously, If you want to reach me, send me a text.  I will ignore an incoming phone call (unless it is my husband or kids), but will reply to a text asap.  Don’t get me wrong, I will answer the phone, especially if I had made arrangements via text or email to have a phone conversation, or my caller ID indicates an incoming caller that I know personally.

So this leads me to the purpose of this post.  FaceTime~Yay or Nay?  You know the app that lets you make a call on your electronic devices (cell phone, iPad, computer, etc) and see the actual person you called and vise versa.  Now, I know I just said I would much rather have a conversation face to face, but I am a big NAY on the whole FaceTime thing personally.  It really creeps me out.  Seriously, I don’t know if someone is just off screen listening (watching), there is no sense of privacy, you have to hold the phone up in-front of your face to be seen, talk about the most awkward selfie ever  (selfies, that too is another stand alone blog post for later).  I could go on and on.  Now, my husband is totally aware of my dislike for FaceTime and finds if fun to call me via FaceTime just to mess with me.  Which has resulted in me just laying the phone flat, so he can stare at the ceiling while we talk.  What’s your take on FaceTime?

Till Next Time
