Society Illustrators Importance Of Art
Society Illustrators importance of art
at Dean Davis Photography
SPOKANE, WASH—After over 110 years of practice around the country, the Society of
Illustrators will bring a traveling art exhibit to Dean Davis Photography campus for the month of
June. The opening of the Society Illustrators Exhibit will be on “First Friday,” June 1, from 5 to 8
The Society’s Annual Exhibition has been offered to colleges for the past 28 years. A
sample of 40 selected works from the exhibition will be featured that convey the best aspects of
each of the Annual’s six categories: Sequential, Editorial, Book, Advertising, Institutional and
Uncommissioned. While some featured artists are well known, some are on the rise, but all of
their pieces were shown in the 2010 juried Illustrators 52 Annual Exhibition.
Nine artists collaborated with one businessman in 1901 to do what they called promoting
art illustration. They committed to holding a few exhibitions throughout the year, and have
managed to accomplish their goal through the enthusiasm of artists from around the globe.
It has not been long since the Society was last in Spokane – only three years ago – and
citizens of the area already have another opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture of
quality art. The Society strives to aid artists who seek to discuss, demonstrate and exhibit their
work in public settings.
The Society of Illustrators is based in New York where their museum is located, but
traveling exhibitions such as the Dean Davis Gallery coming to Spokane, enable artists and their
work to be appreciated in an array of venues and areas.
The museum itself hosts a plethora of exhibits that change frequently, as more artists are
inducted to the society. The premiere showcase at the museum is an annual exhibition that
encompasses over 400 pieces of art that are chosen by a jury of professionals.
The exhibit at Dean Davis Photography, 216 West Pacific Avenue, will be shown through
the 20th of June.
